The Drunken Pastor

The Drunken Pastor

Growing up, I argued so much on whether it's a sin to drink alcohol or not. But despite how sharp our arguments were those days, both sides always believe that the Word of God is against drunkenness. Nobody will esteem a Christian that is filled and controlled by wine high.

Paul wrote, "And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit," (Ephesians 5:18). Paul didn't just tell us not to be drunk, he made it clear why we should not and also provided God's alternative to drunkenness. But is Paul's word only about being drunk with alcohol? The answer is no.

Many Pastors/Christians today are not getting drunk with alcohol but are still under huge unrighteous influence and control. Something probably worse than alcohol is painfully taking control of many Christians today. People are having almost no time for the Spirit of God and the word of God due to social media influence and content.

The mind that supposes to be filled with the things of the kingdom is increasingly filled with junk from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. And these contents are overwhelmingly intoxicating. The same person who finds it quite difficult to dedicate an hour to edifying content spends more than 6 hours daily just feeding on obscene posts from different social media. The same person who can't fellowship for an hour spends a great amount of time laughing over different jokes from WhatsApp status and Facebook.

Not that social media is bad but being under its bondage is devastating and completely unexpected from Christians. YOU NEED TO BREAK OUT OF IT. The Bible says, "Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away." (1 Corinthians 7:31.

Don't boast that you don't take alcohol when your whole mind is completely and daily filled with contents that are unwholesome and unholy. If you don't checkmate what you consume, you will gradually lose genuine interest in the things of God. "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." 12:2
